Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains what information Rutandaro ("we", "us") collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. Rutandaro is operated from Australia. Contact: support@rutandaro.com.

The short version, in plain language: we collect what's needed to run the platform, and we don't sell your data. The details follow.

1. Information we collect

Account information. When you register: your name (display name), username, email address, and password. Passwords are stored only as secure cryptographic hashes — we cannot see your password.

Profile information. What you choose to add: bio and profile photo.

Content you create. Posts (including titles, summaries, and images with captions), comments, likes, connections, and direct messages.

Technical information. When you use the Platform we process your IP address and basic request information for security, rate limiting, and abuse prevention. We currently use cookies only for authentication — secure, httpOnly session cookies that keep you logged in. If this ever changes (see Section 8), we will update this policy first.

We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16. If we learn we have, we will delete it.

2. How we use your information

• To provide the Platform: accounts, profiles, feeds, search, messaging, notifications.
• To keep you signed in and secure your account.
• To send essential account emails (verification, password reset). We do not send marketing email.
• To protect the Platform: rate limiting, abuse and spam prevention, security investigation.
• AI-generated summaries.If you publish a longer post without writing your own summary (or use the "Generate with AI" option), the text of that post is sent to Anthropic's Claude API to generate a short summary. AI-generated summaries are labelled on the Platform. Post text sent for this purpose is processed by Anthropic as a service provider; we do not use your content to train AI models.

3. What is public

• Posts, profiles, and comments are public. They are visible to anyone, including logged-out visitors, and may be indexed by search engines and other automated services.
• Direct messages are privateto the conversation's participants.
• Your email address is never shown publicly.

4. Who we share information with

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only with the service providers that make the Platform work, and only as needed:

We may also disclose information where required by law, or where necessary to investigate serious abuse, protect users, or defend our legal rights.

Our providers may process data in countries other than your own (including the United States). We choose reputable providers with strong security practices.

5. How long we keep information

• Account and content data are kept while your account is active.
• Deleting your account (Settings → Account) permanently removes your profile, posts, comments, likes, connections, notifications, and your conversations including messages. Deletion is not reversible.
• Residual copies (for example, in backups or storage systems) may persist for a limited period after deletion before being removed in the ordinary course of operations.
• Some minimal records may be retained where required by law or for security (for example, rate-limiting logs), for a short period.

6. Your rights and choices

• Access and correction: you can view and edit your profile information at any time in the app.
• Deletion: you can permanently delete your account in Settings → Account.
• Complaints and requests: contact support@rutandaro.comfor any privacy request, including rights you may have under the laws that apply to you (such as the Australian Privacy Principles, the EU/UK GDPR, or South Africa's POPIA — for example, rights of access, correction, deletion, and objection). We will respond within a reasonable time. If you are in Australia and are unsatisfied with our response, you may complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).

7. Security

We protect your information with industry-standard measures: password hashing, secure httpOnly authentication cookies, HTTPS encryption in transit, access controls, and rate limiting. No system is perfectly secure, but we take the protection of your information seriously and will notify affected users of any data breach as required by law.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the Platform evolves — for example, if we introduce new features such as advertising or paid services in the future, we will update this policy to describe exactly what changes and notify you of material updates before they take effect.
