Terms of Service

Welcome to Rutandaro. Rutandaro is a platform for people to come together — to share, engage, network, and connect with Africa and each other. These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Rutandaro website and services at rutandaro.com (the "Platform").

By creating an account or using the Platform, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Platform.

Who we are. The Platform is operated from Australia ("Rutandaro", "we", "us"). You can contact us at support@rutandaro.com.

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 16 years old to create an account or use the Platform. By creating an account, you confirm that you meet this requirement.

2. Your account

  • Provide accurate information when registering, and keep your email address current — we use it for essential account communication (such as verification and password resets).
  • You are responsible for your account and for keeping your password secure. Let us know at support@rutandaro.com if you believe your account has been compromised.
  • One account per person. Do not impersonate others or create accounts for deceptive purposes.

3. Your content

  • You own what you create. Posts, images, comments, and other content you publish on Rutandaro remain yours.
  • You give us permission to host and display it. By posting, you grant Rutandaro a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, process, display, and distribute your content for the purpose of operating and improving the Platform — for example, showing your posts in feeds, search results, and on your profile. This licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except where content has been shared or interacted with by others (for example, quoted links) or where retention is required by law.
  • Public visibility. Posts, profiles, and comments on Rutandaro are public: they can be viewed by anyone, including logged-out visitors, and may be indexed by search engines and other automated services. Private messages are not public (see Section 6).
  • AI processing. If you publish a longer post without writing a summary, the Platform may automatically generate one using a third-party AI service (Anthropic's Claude). AI-generated summaries are labelled. See our Privacy Policy for details.
  • You are responsible for the content you post and must have the rights to share it.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • post content that is unlawful, defamatory, hateful, harassing, threatening, or that incites violence or discrimination;
  • post sexually explicit content involving minors (zero tolerance), or other content that exploits or endangers minors;
  • impersonate any person or organisation, or misrepresent your affiliation;
  • infringe others' intellectual property or privacy rights;
  • spam, scam, or engage in deceptive practices, including bulk unsolicited messaging or manipulation of engagement;
  • attempt to breach, probe, or circumvent the Platform's security, rate limits, or access controls;
  • scrape, harvest, or bulk-collect user data without our written permission;
  • use the Platform to distribute malware or malicious links.

5. Moderation and enforcement

  • Post authors may remove comments on their own posts.
  • We may remove content, restrict features, or suspend or terminate accounts that we reasonably believe violate these Terms or applicable law. Where practical, we will tell you why.
  • We are not obliged to monitor all content, but we may review content to enforce these Terms.

6. Messaging

Direct messages are available between connected members. Messages are private to the participants; we do not read your messages in the ordinary course of operating the Platform, but message data may be accessed where required by law or to investigate serious abuse reports.

7. The Platform and its availability

  • We work to keep Rutandaro available and reliable, but the Platform is provided "as is" and "as available". We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation.
  • We may add, change, or remove features as the Platform evolves.
  • Future features. We may introduce advertising, sponsored content, or paid features in the future. If we do, we will update these Terms and our Privacy Policy as needed and notify you of material changes.

8. Intellectual property

The Rutandaro name, logo, design, and software are owned by us or our licensors. These Terms do not grant you any rights to our branding or code, other than the right to use the Platform as intended.

9. Account deletion and termination

  • You can delete your account at any time in Settings → Account. Deletion is permanent and removes your profile, posts, comments, likes, connections, and messages (see the Privacy Policy for details and limited exceptions).
  • We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, pose security risks, or where required by law.
  • Sections that by their nature should survive termination (such as limitations of liability) survive.

10. Disclaimers and limitation of liability

  • Content on the Platform is created by users and does not represent our views. We are not responsible for user content, though we will act on valid reports as described above.
  • To the maximum extent permitted by law, we exclude all implied warranties, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of the Platform.
  • Nothing in these Terms excludes, restricts, or modifies any consumer rights or guarantees that cannot lawfully be excluded, including under the Australian Consumer Law. Where liability cannot be excluded but can be limited, our liability is limited to resupplying the service.

11. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms as the Platform evolves. For material changes, we will notify you (for example, by an in-app notice or email) before the changes take effect. Continuing to use the Platform after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.

12. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Victoria, Australia. Courts of Victoria, Australia have non-exclusive jurisdiction over disputes arising from these Terms, without limiting any mandatory consumer protections that apply where you live.
